Artist’s Statement
The current tense political climate worldwide, all those violent conflicts around the globe, and the increasingly disrespectful kind of communication in general lead us to a design that intends to change all of us. We translated the word kindness into multiple languages and added it as a banner to our main challenge, symbolizing that this request is meant for all mankind – independent from nationality, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. We sewed every second word in a different, printed black fabric, emphasizing the different personalities and strengths of our group members. Wanting to show with this quilt how much we can all achieve – often because of our differences – when working together for a common goal. The quilted symbol above our main statement stands for kindness. It was developed by ‘Topical Elementary’, who are currently petitioning to make this the universal symbol for kindness – understood by everyone worldwide, similar to the peace sign.
