Collection of Small Finishes

I am playing catch-up on a few projects and blog posts to finish the year and this is the first. A collection of a few smaller finishes :)

Coasters No. 1

First a set of coasters I made for my swap partner in the advent calendar swap. These were a special filling for the Advent Sundays.

My partner had two wishes on her list. The first was small coasters in grey, black, white or creme with a modern pattern. I also figured out that she likes combinations with Essex linen and thus did them in two sets with either a lighter or darker grey Essex Linen background.

The scraps used for the patchwork strips were partly from my scrap bins and also from a mini charm pack by Figo. They call them microchips and it was from QuiltCon :) The fabric collection is called Serenity by Ghazal Razavi. Quite a few of those went into the coasters.

Coasters No. 2

They were a fun make and I had another mini charm pack from QuiltCon lying around. So I thought I might make a few more ;)

This is a mixture of the basics by Cotton + Steel. It was the final “win” when you completed the passport stamp hunt. They called the collection Around the World QuiltCon 2023.

I loved the rainbow vibe and decided to do a big stack for myself. I added just two fabrics for the yellow coaster.

One Hour Basket

And last I sewed a One Hour Basket – the original Kelly size – for my swap partner’s Christmas gift.

She uses them to corral her scraps and one for the orange ones was missing. I was inspired by Debbie @ A Quilters Table who recently did a very beautiful basket for a swap, too.

The orange fabrics used were simple squares and some hourglass patchwork. I also used the same Essex linen as in some coasters. The first picture is of the sneak peek I used on my IG feed – though I used it in a black-and-white version so as not to give too much away ;)

As a stabilizer, I used Soft & Stable and I like how it turned out.

I think I never made that many small finishes in a row.

But it was a fun experience and I also added up the rough fabric amount used up. Always ignoring the patchwork parts and just calculating with simple plain fabrics. I did not feel like crazy math for once. So this will be a close enough estimate for me. Just to add it to my monthly tally. And though they are small projects, they do add up!

  1. What delightful projects. LOVE all the coasters! What fun quilting on them. And I also love how your one-hour basket turned out! I like how you added the trim along the top. I need to remember that idea.
